How to Find Remote Jobs for Free

We get it: one of the painful things about job hunting is finding the place to search for remote jobs in the first place. We have a list of different job boards you can utilize, but some of those boards may require a monthly fee -- or you may just want to avoid the multitude of spammy emails you receive after signing up even for a free one.
Today we're chatting through how to find remote job listings without having to sign up for anything -- free or otherwise. (And we're throwing out some ideas at the end so you can sign up without getting spammed)
If you're remote job searching, you should have LinkedIn set up. It provides social proof as well as digital networking opportunities - think of it as a visual resume/portfolio. Trust me, your prospective employers will look at it.
On top of the social networking aspect, LinkedIn also provides a nifty job search feature. You can use this feature to job search specific titles, or trawl any job listing that includes the word "remote." (I recommend starting here so you can get a sense of the different types of role available - you might find your interest piqued or skills aligned with something that surprises you. I also love this option for those of us who aren't honestly sure what kind of job we want; it lets you see what sounds like it could be fun!).
Start with this link. You can customize filters to include the date the job was posted, the experience level they required (though I don't like to use this one - here's why), job type, and LinkedIn's feature for "Easy Apply."
The "Easy Apply" option allows you to submit an application in two clicks, utilizing your LinkedIn profile as a resume. Some jobs will also allow you to apply through their website, in which case you can upload the resume you already have on hand. I personally prefer to apply directly through the company's website when possible because you can usually customize the application a little more to showcase your skills & how they align with the job description, but I tend to use Easy Apply when it's a job that I find somewhat interesting but am not overly invested in hearing back from.
How Do I Avoid Getting Spammed?
We have a few tricks for you here:
Create filters in Gmail - here's how! Creating filters and rules allows you to ensure that only email you want to prioritize comes to the top of your inbox. You can segment promotions, newsletters, and more.
Set up a job application email. I personally utilize a "spam" email so that my primary inbox remains untainted, and utilize another to sign up for job boards and the like. However, I strongly recommend you ensure your resumes & applications are associated with a professional looking email that can be public-facing (ie., yourname@gmail.com).
Always Opt Out. When you register, ensure you opt out of marketing emails & set your notification preferences up front. It will take you an extra 2-3 minutes to set up your account, but it's worth it to ensure you only receive emails that provide value to you.
(PAID OPTION) Utilize Superhuman. Superhuman makes filtering email really easy - it's like a streamlined, done-for-you version of #1. It starts at $30/month, so not for everyone, but if you find yourself managing multiple inboxes it makes navigation so easy and seamless. I have used it for years and love it.
Know and leverage your Data Subject Rights. Okay, this one is super technical and heavily related to my own work in data privacy - Data Subject Access Rights mean that you can request companies delete, update, or even summarize any information they have on you. I like to perform regular inbox cleanups to ensure companies don't maintain any data when I don't use them anymore and opt out of any "noise" emails I get.
Got More Questions?
We get that the job search process is painful, intimidating, and requires a lot of information - and you don't always know where to find it or who to trust. Roadmap to Remote's mission is to make finding a remote job accessible, easy, and maybe even fun for anyone who wants to set themselves free from a traditional 9-5 or shift work.
